Imagine walking through the airport carrying the most luxurious, compact, and travel-friendly duffle bag of all time.

When we dream of our much-awaited vacation, it is impossible not to think about the planning involved: the tickets, the itinerary, the hotels, and so on. Yet, the most important element of all will always be your travel bag.

While we can check in our sturdy luggage and forget about it, our carry-ons stay with us at all times. And no other duffle bag can match the Gucci Savoy line, which has accompanied the most distinguished travellers across the globe.

With its vintage design elements from various decades, masterful craftsmanship, and a truly spacious interior, the Gucci Savoy duffle bag has quickly become a must-have for any modern traveller. And here are the reasons why.

The Savoy Connection

It was at the turn of the 20th century when a young Guccio Gucci fell in love with luxurious leather travel bags while working as a porter at the famed Savoy Hotel in London. During his time as a luggage porter and elevator operator, he observed the sophisticated aesthetics and travel habits of the international jet-setters of that era.

The Savoy Hotel provided immense inspiration for him to create something of his own back in his hometown. In 1921, Guccio returned to Florence and opened a shop on Via della Vigna Nuova that specialised in English luggage, or "valigeria Inglese."

The artisanal luggage atelier gave birth to the now-legendary House of Gucci, where he focused on fine Tuscan materials and craftsmanship combined with an elegant English aesthetic, as noted on Gucci’s official site, in the early days.

Vintage Elements, Modern Designs

Launched in 2021, the Gucci Savoy duffle was introduced as part of the brand’s 100th anniversary, debuting in its Aria collection, which immediately stole the attention of many. Paying homage to the legendary Savoy Hotel, the duffle’s iconography stands out by combining vintage elements from the House’s archives into a brand-new creation.

For instance, the iconic GG Supreme canvas in beige and dark brown dates back to the 1960s. Meanwhile, the signature red and green equestrian web stripe, wrapped vertically around the centre, originates from the 1950s and the interlocking double G logo, representing Guccio Gucci, is a hallmark of the 1970s. The Savoy duffle also introduces modern touches, such as a special ID tag that references Guccio’s time as a porter.

But, the Savoy duffle bag’s construction needs a masterful skill of its own. Crafted from 50 leather pieces, the Gucci artisans assemble each one of them to the silhouette using traditional, hand-stitched craftsmanship. For the interior, the Savoy duffle is known for its spacious features that are complemented with a dark brown leather trim, zip pocket, and zip closure that could fit numerous travel items for your sojourn pleasure.

Not only that, this masterpiece duffle also comes with a detachable and adjustable leather shoulder strap, so you can easily transition from a casual crossbody to a classic top-handle for maximum comfort and a more peaceful travel experience.
